Festivals are always portrayed as happy family time. Everyone is sitting together playing board games, indulging in traditional meals and heartfelt conversations at the table comparing notes on the cars people have acquired or the sizes of their homes.

You may find yourself saying- what! This doesn’t show a picture of time well-spent! There are plenty of things you would rather do than be with family. What if you find yourself all alone this festive season?

R U ready to celebrate ALONE?

Maybe you have no immediate family, have lost touch with most of them or you’ve travelled for work and UR now stuck in another country, where the travel rules do not allow you to return.

Whatever the reason may be, how will you spend time this festive season? Will you feel sad and homesick or do you think you can take better care of UR emotions? Well, here’s how you can care for URself when U may find URself alone during the festive season!

Step out of UR little circle. You may be alone in the city, but there may be a few others in the same situation as U! Reach out to a few people – peers at work, neighbors, whoever they may be. Make plans at least for one evening, if all goes well, the group might make more plans. Keep UR ego and judgmental attitude aside. Go without inhibitions or preconceived notions.

Call home for a simple family recipe. Try UR hand at cooking comfort food. There is a strong connection between food and joy and memories. Take a shower and put on some fancy clothes, set-up the table with UR newly learned delicacies. Get a few festive lights going, add some life and light to UR quiet evening.

Go for a walk to the city square. Be around people while they are out having a blast. Watch them have fun, indulge in conversation and exchange greetings with each other. It may not be the same as being with UR own near and dear ones, but it surely beats sitting alone at home all by yourself.

So, you don’t have the best festive time this year and it may not feel good. What you can avoid doing is making it much worse than it is! Find people, in-person or virtually from any part of the world who have the same emotional needs for a companion to share their highs and lows with.

Be open-minded, and you may have a great time after all! Stay Positive as the world can be as happy or sad as U want it to be.
