How to motivate yourself to work out during the holiday season

Holidays are to relax, eat, laze around and basically do whatever you want – it’s a time for pure indulgence! The festivities that are around the corner are a perfect excuse to give up UR regular workout program and gorge on all the delicious goodies that may come UR way. Even though you’re not going to pile on loads of kilos in just a few days – the important thing is to stay on track. Don’t stop your regular exercise and workouts. Consistency is key, to get the desired results from UR exercise program.

‘How to stay motivated to work out during the holiday season’ is a very common question I get asked. Most people who start off a fitness program or hit a plateau with their fitness journey have this query. During holidays, everyone is celebrating, family and friends are over, or you’re travelling – there’s a lot going on. To be consistent with UR training and with UR nutrition regimen during such times could be really hard. It is difficult to stick to the program you’ve been following for a while and quite understandably!

What can you do to not deviate from your fitness routine? A good start would be to stop and think of all the time you finally have on your hands.  The majority of us use the lack of time as an excuse for not getting into a workout program or starting a specific diet or just sort of slacking off with our training regimen. The holidays provide you with ample time.

Start penning down your goals – whether it’s UR weight, health or fitness goals, all of these need to be put down on paper so it’s right in UR face and you can utilize the extra time and create a plan. For all the times you’ve complained of not having the time – this is your moment. Use the time well; strategize how you want to get on a proper training and nutrition regimen and you’ll then have some kind of motivation to stick to it.

Holidays are a time for friends and family to get together and to come over. Since you’ll be doing many activities together, find innovate ways to involve them and you won’t feel like you’re missing out on the fun! You can invite UR friends and family to do a group workout or play a sport together. Doing something outdoorsy – going for a run together or cycling together is a good idea. Involve everyone in some physical activities or training and spice things up! It will feel like you’re all in it together.

You can even pick an activity you normally don’t have the time to do when you’re working. Let’s say, if you always wanted to get into adventure sports or you wanted to explore cycling, or explore running or training for a marathon – this would be an ideal time to motivate yourself. The goal itself would be UR motivation and you would want to train for it.

Think of all the things you couldn’t get yourself to do, due to time constraints. Now is UR chance. When you keep this as UR goal it will be much easier for you to motivate yourself to train for something you’ve always wanted to do. Rather than doing multiple things at the same time, it’s best to identify a specific goal and train for it.

Last but not the least, the holiday season is all about amazing food and it’s inevitable that U R going to be tempted to indulge in some festive delicacies, treats and sweets. This should be the biggest reason to not skip UR workouts! One other vital aspect is to keep a check on any disease that you may have and its tendency to slow down UR metabolism. Ensure you eat the right kind of food to manage your condition and keep your metabolism in check. A slow metabolism can cause weight gain and will make you feel lethargic which in turn will make working out difficult.
