It goes without saying that many of us are now cautious about visiting the hospital or any public places. The risk of coming in contact with the virus is a big worry for all, and no one should take a chance! There is a lot of interest and uncertainty on the precautions we should take before stepping into a hospital or clinic. Here are a few safety guidelines U can follow before visiting a hospital.

What U Can Do

  • Before leaving UR house, make sure U have a doctor’s appointment. Carry sanitizer, a pair of gloves and wet wipes along.
  • It is recommended to be accompanied by an individual in case U cannot go on UR own if U have any chronic health concerns.
  • Stay away from overcrowded areas and if U have cold and cough, just stay home.
  • Children, pregnant women and senior citizens must refrain from going to a hospital unless there’s an emergency. Opt for online doctor consultations, instead.

  • While commuting to the clinic, prefer going on UR own. If U have no choice but to take public transport, ensure U sanitize UR hands before entering and exiting the auto, cab, buses or metro.
  • While paying for UR transport, prefer going digital and reduce the risk of cross-contamination. At the hospital, maintain six feet distance from UR nearest person.
  • Wash UR hands and face with soap before and after consulting UR physician.
  • Every hospital has its own set of protocols and U must follow them.
  • If U have COVID symptoms, then go to the hospitals listed by the government for treating the virus and avoid going to regular OPDs (out-patient departments).

When you don’t wear gloves, U will keep thinking about the care and protection U need to take when UR outdoors, and before U touch any surfaces. Wash UR hands with soap or sanitize them frequently. Using a hand sanitizer often is much safer. Gloves are a big no!

  • Wear a mask at all times and ensure that U do not touch the mask from the outside.
  • Avoid touching UR face, eyes, mouth and other surfaces until U reach home and only use the straps of the mask while U remove it.
  • Remove footwear at the doorstep, sanitize UR hands and take a shower immediately.
  • Put UR clothes for laundry.

Wearing Gloves Necessary?

Some people may think that wearing gloves to a hospital is a good idea, but it is not. This is because when you wear gloves, you become over complacent and tend to forget the precautions and safety measures you need to follow. For this reason, avoiding gloves is much better and is considered to be a safer option when U go outside. Being mindful of UR health just doesn’t cut it, one should be mindful of the environment, too. Here’s how you can do it.

Cloth mask: Wash them properly and regularly; air dry it by hanging them outside.
Surgical mask: Remove using its straps with chin upwards; do not touch the outside of the mask. Fold, tie it and wrap the mask and discard it immediately.

Do not dispose masks and gloves on the road, dustbin, drains or in public places, where many people can touch it, it could also clog drains and increase the spread of various diseases and infections during the pandemic. Pack gloves and masks in paper or tissue before disposing of them.

Be mindful and stay safe!
